McLaren Vale: 180 years of experience and innovation

Updated: Sep 2, 2021

45 minutes south of Adelaide in South Australia the McLaren Vale region is best known for its Shiraz (Of the region's 7,308 hectares of area under vine, 54% of our plantings are dedicated to Shiraz), but also excels in the production of ultra-premium Grenache and Cabernet.

Spanish and Italian varieties such as Fiano, Vermentino, Tempranillo and Sangiovese are also very well suited to the Mediterranean climate in this beautiful region.

With over 180 years of winemaking experience, local growers are known for their innovative viticultural methods. We're happy to support top growers in the McLaren Vale, on their way to produce high-quality wine in a more sustainable and efficient way.

"We've just finished the installation of two more vineyards for Paxton Wines as part of the expansion for their second season", says Australian Managing Director, Mark Heyward, "As a flagship wine region that relies heavily on limited recycled water, we are excited to work with these progressive growers seeking to optimize irrigation and quality outcomes. Phytech enables wine growers to listen to their vines - see their water-demand and growth rate in real time so they can fine-tune irrigation, save water and get high-quality grapes. Veraison, which is a critical stage in the season, is an excellent example where growers get clear visibility of their vines as they 'progress' through veraison and can apply deficit irrigation more confidently".
